Maybe I finally figured out a way to approach my days with the right frame of mind. Or maybe it’s all the yoga I’ve been doing over the past few weeks. Or may it’s the yoga that’s put me in the right frame of mind. But yesterday, I woke up and I just knew it would be a good day. And it was. The weather was unseasonably warm, the sun was out, and I received an unexpected invitation to attend the opening of a posh restaurant.
I went to work with a smile on my face, which hasn’t happened in a very long time. So what is it about my daily routine that has changed my frame of mind? I think it’s because I’ve gotten into a routine of writing down “little thoughts” that remind me of important things about myself that are easy to forget if I don’t keep them in the forefront of my mind. No, it’s not like Memento, I don’t have short term memory loss. I’m practicing the art of positive thinking. Every morning when I arrive at my dreaded day job I write down three little phrases on a piece of scratch paper and sit it by my computer so that at any point in my day I can look down and be reminded that:
I do what I WANT in my life
They don’t own me (my employer is the “they”)
Life is good
What is the significance of these reminders? I’ll explore in tomorrow’s blog post. Stay tuned...
