I typically don’t make public statements about politics or sensitive current events, but as a blogger and a compassionate person I just wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t express my condolences for the Martin family and my disappointment in the Florida justice system. Of course, there has been and will continue to be a lot of bloggers covering and expressing varying points of view on this case. And I’m not certain I have the analytical wherewithal to post a daily commentary on every prosecutor or defense attorney’s statement. So I’ll just leave that to the pros.
The more that is revealed about this case the more clear it becomes that Hernandez’s actions were senseless and unnecessary. Yes, I’m relieved that he has finally been charged, but it is disconcerting that in this day of age Zimmerman has created a platform that makes it acceptable for people to race bait, go vigilante, and take the law into their own hands (and have the nerve to make up a claim of self-defense). In the end, regardless of the outcome of the verdict, all I can say is this man should not be able to live with himself. A guilty conscious may be the toughest sentence a man can face. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
And, yes, if I had a son he would look like Trayvon.
